Graves Disease
An autoimmune disorder that causes an overactive thyroid gland.
Definition
Graves disease is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system stimulates the thyroid to produce too much hormone, leading to hyperthyroidism. Symptoms include a racing heart, weight loss, anxiety, tremors, and sometimes bulging eyes. It is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism and is highly treatable once identified.
